Ochre [DARDARK] Contemporary Dance Company will promote a broad examination of cultural exchange, contemporary artistic content and aesthetic by building strong connections between artists, communities and audiences. Working artistically requires reflection on one’s surroundings, both geographical and cultural. The company will unite the spirit of a diverse group of artists who seek an innovative centre and professional infrastructure for Indigenous inspired dance. Together we will forge a voice for dance production in Perth and support the collaboration and exchange of dance (especially with indigenous companies) across the state, nation and world. We will create a home where artists feel welcome to develop their skills and ideas and challenge themselves, their colleagues and their audiences.
Great cultural practice starts with robust and appropriate interaction with local communities. Engaging local community in professional artistic development offers educational and employment possibilities while developing a company repertoire that has its roots in the traditions of aboriginal storytelling and cultural practice.
